Chile Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups milks
  • 2 Packets of Dark or Milk Chocolate Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate Mix
  • 2 heaping Tbsb of Criollo Cocoa or other unsweetened cocoa powder
  • zest from 1/2 to full orange
  • 1 1/2 to 2 tsp. honey
  • 1/2 to 3/4 tsp. of vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon powder (or several cinnamon sticks)
  • 1/4 to 1/3 tsp. of cayenne pepper or pasilla pepper powder

Directions:

  1. Heat 3 cups of milk in a big, glass measuring cup
  2. Add the packets of Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate mix and Criollo Cocoa to the hot milk and stir till well blended
  3. Add honey, vanilla, and cinnamon
  4. To taste, add zest of orange and pepper powder
  5. Let everything soak for a few minutes and then strain the hot chocolate mixture through a strainer, lined with a paper towel into a jar
  6. Store refrigerated (you can put the cinnamon sticks back in).
  7. Serve heated at full strength or diluted 1-to-1 with milk

Note:

This recipe makes one large spaghetti jar’s worth of hot chocolate.
